Harvey Stalwick joined Trinity Lutheran College in 2006 and serves as Professor & Chair of Social Work. He also serves as Director of the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning. Harvey currently teaches courses in social welfare and social work profession history, as well as critical social policy in areas of children and family services, anti-racism/human rights, domestic violence, and integration of religious roots with social justice.
Harvey has over 40 years of experience as a social work educator and administrator. Career highlights include serving as founding dean of social work and a 22-year tenure at the University of Regina in Canada, after which he served 12 years as director of social work at Concordia College, Moorhead, MN, where he also served as coordinator of the five-year Lilly Endowment Call to Serve program of vocation discernment. He maintains a community development and participatory research interest in culture-specific curriculum, critical pedagogy, and access to human rights social justice.
Harvey earned a bachelor’s degree from Concordia College, majoring in sociology/social work. His B.S.W. and M.S.W. degrees were from the University of British Columbia, followed by a Ph.D. from the London School of Economics & Political Science.
Spare time includes baking in a wood-fired clay bake oven, visiting with two sons (Trevor and Ken) and sharing many grandchildren with his wife, Juanita. Solitude is found in music and a desert retreat yurt.
